Apartment Review for Summertree - Scottsdale, AZ

My wife and I moved into the Summertree apts in the middle of summer. We rented it sight unseen and we moved from out of state. Getting set up we talked to Gail and she was knowlegdeable and prompt. It took several phone calls back and forth to get everything set up and her customer service was great. At move in, the apt was clean and in good repair except a couple of small maintenance issues. We moved in and was delighted to find that Gail and Sandy, the managers had stocked our fridge with some food and Gatorade so that we would have something to eat and drink at move in. They even gave us cooking utensils and small kitchen appliances for free! What a nice touch! I did see a cockroach at move in, so I talked to Sandy and the guy came and sprayed THAT DAY. Once moved in, I received a very well organized packet with phone numbers and addresses for local busninesses and schools and emergency facilities. Summertree was the cheapest rent I found in Scottsdale. And most other apts charged utilities, my utilities came included in my one bedroom (that is to stay, it was a flat $25 charge for electric), so no matter how much I ran the A/C the bill was the same. WAY cheaper than other places. It is a chiller system, but I never had problems with it cooling down the place and it blew hard enough for me to be cool for sure, so I have no complaints about the cooling. Any maintenace problems I had were fixed quickly and correctly. I even had an after hours emergency maintenance issue and the maintenance guy came out and it was resolved in the middle of the night. Everything that the apartment managers have control of they do a great job with, I give them a 5 out of 5. However, here are the down issues. Cockroaches. They are old apartments and I think that maybe they are not equipped with drain blocks or something. I kept the apartment clean, and they were still there. So either they come in through the drains, or throught the neighbor's walls. Either way there are roaches. That having been said, the apt will spray or bomb as often as you request it. It just gets tiring washing all your dishes after a bombing and if you have pets they can't be in there while bombing either so that's another pain. So roaches due to old blds. One other concern I have is that I was downstairs and you could hear every move the upstairs neighbor made because it made my ceiling squeak when he walked. Again I attribute this to an old building. The upstairs neighbor was no jumping or doing it on purpose, but he got up at 3:00 AM to go to work, so between 3-4 AM it was constanst squeaking until he left. Again, nothing can be done about that short of tearing down the building and re-building it. So in conclusion: Everything within the control of the managers I give a 5 out of 5, the other I give a 3 out of 5.
