Lost that Welcoming Community Feeling
Review Date: 11/7/2007 Reviewer: Anonymous
The last review posted on August 2007 wherein he stated: "The office staff are vastly superior to the rest of us and seem to gain pleasure in delaying or denying any request you may have (always citing "It's policy. so sorry, I understand, but policy)." I would have to agree with you here. I have lived here for a number of years and am now experiencing the third management shift. I can now appreciate the second team more today even though they were corporate and financially oriented, they certainly were much more receptive to dealing with residents and treating them with respect. It seems as though this third team is getting further and further away from creating a welcoming community atmosphere. While they did host a resident BBQ, the shift in new policies and they way it is addressed seems as if it is an almost "nah, nah" kinda way. Simple things such as being able to make copies are lost. The main club house has now seemed to take the whole operation into what seems secretative and undercover operations. A resident cannot even offer to pay for copies even when they have 25 copies to make - not too excessive. Given that many other communities have business centers, this new staff seems to pride itself more on "it's against our policy." An to think if this company invest money on upgrading the club house. For what! The club house seems to be OFF LIMITS for residents. Staff work behind closed doors, all doors are locked and the mailman has even been dismayed as he is no longer allowed to leave packages. I understand the liabilty issue but many residents enjoy having that perk when most work all day and are not home to accept delivery. On another occasion, given that I am a long time tenant and have a different payday cycle, I went to the manager and stated that the rent would be two days late. While I was prepared to sign a promise to pay form, she said not to worry. Well on the eve of the 3rd, 5 minutes to 6:00 PM, I was greeted by the constable at my door who served me with an eviction notice. I was overwhelmed! I didn't understand when I specifically spoke to the manager prior to the 1st and was specifically told not to worry. Thank goodness there were still 5 minutes before closing when I frantically ran up to the office to stop proceedings and I was told that "new policy" is even if I had signed a PTP, which I was told not to by the manager and not to worry, that it is their policy to send all lates to the attorney for service on day 3. Not only was I forced to pay late fees but I was also charged the fee for the constables' service. I do understand that some people can fall behind in rent and so on, but when a long time resident enters a promise to pay and has never defaulted on these, shouldn't there be some concessions. I guess it was more pleasureable to once again demonstrate to the tenant, the landlords superiority. One would think that after speaking with the manager well in advance and told not to worry that it is such - not to worry and not be threatened, one day after grace, by the constable standing at your door to serve you with eviction papers. Other annoyances is I once reported that there were dog dropping left on the lawn. I do not own a dog nor did I see whose dog left behind the trail. But when I kindly reported it in hopes that maybe the landscapers would look after it, I was told it's not their problem. A few months ago, after the landscapers performed a massive tree trimming, we had a storm and one of the branches broke. I called the office and reported it. To this date, the limb was never treated. The landscapers were also notorious for dust blowing your car as they blew dust from one side of the parking lot to the other but it seems that this has been corrected. With regards to noise level and insulation, for years I enjoyed quiet until Thunder moved in. Now I understand what the other review writer meant by poor insulation. In addition, electricity is costly (approximately $150 mo) as the front and back doors seem to be losing their seal and the air just seap out causing even more energy loss. True, the average water, trash and sewage is about $30. I have always enjoyed living here. I am a quiet, don't complain much person. Although I seem like I have a lot to say, given I have been here 4 years, comments are expected. I am a clean tenant and take care of my surroundings. The maintenance staff here has been wonderful and are always very responsive. No problem there. It's the new management staff and leasing staff that may be in need of an attitude adjustment. It is such a cold, distant energy that they send out. Maybe its me and I may need to work on my attitude but I am not demanding and usually pleasant. It's when I am thrown a unexpected curveball that it is presented in a cold manner that I find unsettling. Perhaps if management is instituting new policy, along with the additional postage they incurred with their new mailing out the monthly rent bill, they might want to include a newsletter advising their residents of major new changes. I worked in property management for years and once lived on-site with my residents and I can say that while I understand some residents may try to manipulate management, management should never lose sight that they are here to create a warm, welcoming community. That it's the residents who make it possible for them to earn a living and not the other way around! My advice today, I would NOT RECOMMEND this apartment. |
